With two full-lengths and two EPs released and hundreds of sold out shows performed in the last several years, a recent late night television debut on Conan following a special performance on The Eric Andre Show, it seems, as Mac nears his 25th birthday, there’s not a slack bone in the man’s body. Despite working at the same pace as artists like Creedence and The Rolling Stones, coupled with an equally unending schedule of touring and press, it’s odd that Mac is labeled as a slacker. Written and recorded during the downtime between a relentless touring schedule, Another One is an eight-track release that expands the arsenal of Mac’s already impressive catalog, showing the maturity of Mac’s progression as songwriter: it’s a bit more refined, a bit more sophisticated, but nonetheless retains the guts and soul of classic Mac. In my opinion it’s just as good, which makes it very, very good indeed. Download Mac Demarco songs, singles and albums on MP3. DeMarco is no apathetic slacker, though: this album has a richness of emotion in its laid-back attitude: a good example being “Without Me”, a genuinely moving ballad (DeMarco is just incredibly good at writing these, and this is perhaps his best to date).Īnother One is no great diversion from Salad Days, neither does it better it.
This is music made for long and lazy summer evenings, for slowing down and appreciating life instead of the rushing and worrying we’re encouraged to do by so much of popular culture. These often seem like jazzy lounge-style songs, put through a psychedelic, stoned filter, producing a totally unique sound and providing the perfect backdrop to DeMarco’s understated vocals. The clip was written and directed by DeMarco’s frequent collaborator. This lends DeMarco’s music a strange quality that teeters between the comfortable and the unpredictable. Mac DeMarco forms a deep, albeit hilarious, bond with the Grim Reaper in the lighthearted new video for One Another. Choose from Same Day Delivery, Drive Up or Order Pickup. However, despite the utter lack of showiness in the music, the chord sequences are memorable, inventive, and often subtly evoke jazz (the piano in “Just to Put Me Down” being a prime example). Like Salad Days, this album has its fair share of jangle in the guitars (seriously, DeMarco’s now-distinctive warm guitar tones are second to none), alongside tasteful bluesy licks. DeMarco’s music typically centres around melodic guitar and laid-back vocals played at a restrained pace, and this album doesn’t stray far from the typical Mac DeMarco sound that his devoted fans have come to know and love. Today I’ve been listening to Another One, the new album (or “mini-album” as it’s been called) from Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco, whose 2014 album Salad Days I enjoyed immensely.
